Haestad Methods
Media Planner
1998-1999

I began working at Haestad Methods as a data entry clerk the summer before my final semester of college. When the Media Planner quit, I was asked and agreed to take over the position. I proposed a flexible 12-hour, three-day schedule so that I'd have time to finish up my undergraduate degree too.

Under the CEO's wing, I dove headfirst into the world of advertising, working closely with the research & development, in-house graphic design, and sales teams to develop and carry out corporate marketing initiatives. I also quickly became the go-to girl for written communications, drafting and editing a variety of memos and letters for executive-level employees.

Looking back, I owe much of my subsequent successes to the people I worked with and projects I worked on at Haestad. Above all, the group of intelligent, passionate individuals I was able to work alongside proved that—with equal parts persistence and ingenuity—it's possible to take any idea and turn it into a reality.

  • Negotiated advertising contracts with industry publications
  • Coordinated development and publication of client case studies

  • Ghostwrote the Preface to Haestad Press' first publication
  • Wrote/edited marketing materials and executive correspondence
  • Assisted in the production of multimedia promotions and tutorials

    Portfolio

Essential Hydraulics & Hydrology | For the first official release from Haestad Press—the publishing branch of Haestad Methods—I was asked to contribute an article about using the Internet to find engineering RFPs and design opportunities. On the day before it went to press, I was also asked to ghostwrite the Preface. After the CEO and editor outlined their ideas that morning, I took my notes and got to writing. By the end of that (very long) day, after many drafts and revisions, I had completed the assignment and the finished manuscript made it to the printer—just in the nick of time.
